This coffee comes to us from the Giakanja Farmers Cooperative Society located in Thingingi, Nyeri county. The farms that make up the Co-op are smallholders rather than large estates where most of the coffee is grown as small family plots alongside their homes, located on the slopes and upper plateaus.
This offering was sourced by our owner, Amy Pope on a trip to Kenya and Uganda in 2019 with Crop to Cup Coffee Importers. The Giakanga Farmers Coop invited the coffee sources to their farm for a strategic planning meeting, dinner and festivities.
The lot consists of SL28, SL34, Ruiru II, and Batian varieties grown at 1,700 - 1,800 MASL. It is fully washed and dried on raised beds.
In the cup you'll find dark fruity and savory notes with a citrus-like acidity. This coffee offers both big body and big acidity with a lingering aftertaste of molasses. Enjoy!
