Appellation: Eastern Napa, Chiles Valley, and Suisun Valley, California
Grape Varieties: Valdiguié, Carignan, Petite Sirah, Tannat
Our taste of Northern California in 2019, this blend is 53% Valdiguié with the remainder being old vine Carignan, a red field blend, Petite Sirah, and Tannat. It is a wine of impressive vibrancy and brightness on the nose, but with a palate of late summer in California, sunny, dry, and serious.
Approximately 25% of the blend was fermented whole cluster. All of the grapes were fermented in concrete and then pressed into older French oak barrels, a few puncheons, and concrete tanks, with an eye on the transparency of fruit. Malolactic occurred naturally with the wine receiving a light sulfur addition immediately before bottling.
