Hervé Souhaut (Domaine Romaneaux-Destezet) La Souteronne!  Hervé farms a mere 5 hectares (12.36 acres) in the Ardèche, just opposite Northern Rhône’s famed Syrah producing regions (St. Joseph, Hermitage, etc.).  Restrictions on winemaking practices are not as severe as these other areas which allows Hervé to produce much fresher and more gulpable wines.

La Souteronne is a gem amongst gems.  This wine is made from 100% Gamay (usually found in Beaujolais and Loire), is hand-harvested and vinified without de-stemming!  All of this produces a wonderful and pleasurable wine that has enough acid and structure to stand up to just about any dish, but is so easy to drink that you could just take care of  the bottle on its own.
