Paulus Bosberaade Chenin Blanc
Winemaker: Paul Jordaan
Appellation: Swartland, South Africa
Grape Varietal: Chenin Blanc
Swartland Chenin Blanc bush vines from the Paardeberg planted in 1980 in deep decomposed granite soils. Hand picked and whole bunch pressed into old oak barrels where the juice ferments and settle naturally. The wine is kept on the lees for about ten months and then racked and bottled.
'Paulus Wine Co. is an undertaking by Paul Jordaan, winemaker at Sadie Family Wines, and his French partner Pauline Roux, Bosberaad 2019 the second vintage of a Chenin Blanc from old-vine Paardeberg grapes. It currently presents as very subtle. Pear, citrus and white peach along with hints of hay and dried herbs on the nose before a palate that is clean and fresh with a lightly savoury finish. There is a sense of more to come with time in bottle.' – Christian Eedes, WineMag.co.za
'On the nose, we pick up a variety of stone fruits like pear and apricot accompanied by some hints of lemon zest, quince, orange blossoms and honeycomb. There is a certain flintiness/saltiness to the wine which runs from the nose straight through to the pallet and just pulls everything nicely together. The slightest hint of reduction almost emphasises and elevates that freshness.' – Paul Jordaan
