We’ve been on an orange wine voyage of discovery, but have arrived at our destination with the release of our 2019 Kubli Bench Amber. In past vintages, we produced several orange wines from riesling and vermentino as single variety wines. What we discovered is that by blending we created a wine with more complexity and personality, so our Amber became part of our Kubli Bench series of blends. This unique combination of our biodynamic riesling, vermentino and marsanne is fermented on the skins, just as we would do for a red wine. The resulting wine is savory and structured and combines some of the fruitiness of white wines with the backbone of red wines and a beautiful amber color. While popularly called orange wines these days, we call wines we make in this style amber wines, as that is what they’re called in the Republic of Georgia, where they have been made for thousands of years. You’ll be hard pressed to find a wine that is more versatile with food as it literally matches with almost any kind of cuisine. We love it as an aperitif with tapas, with sushi or try it on a day that is too hot for red wine with your favorite grilled steak.
